Pop's Clam Shack

I'm new to this..

I was just wondering what everyone thought of Pop's Clam Shack in Alton New Hampshire. We ate there Labor Day weekend for the first time and everything was fantastic. The portions are huge. We got a clam plate and split it with a side of onion rings and still had leftovers.

I've read the great reviews and tried it twice. Am I the only one who thinks it needs a lot of salt? Seemed bland to me.

My wife and I prefer Shibley's take-out for our fried food in Alton Bay.

i dont know why people are always mentioning the price of seafood being expensive. seafood is expensive, everywhere you go. the prices at pops are exactly what they should be. and the food is fantastic. ive never had a bad meal at pops and the people who work there are very friendly. i would recommend pops to anyone! :)

I'm sorry, did I miss something. I couldn't find a thing in this thread that mentioned that the seafood was expensive/pricey. I took the word pricey to mean they thought in general their food was a little pricey.:)

In post two, he mentioned Pop's being a little pricey. Posts 5&6 seemed to say to me, again MHO, they are pricey 'cause seafood overall is pricey, so perhaps a little off topic, but more an explanation.

May be it's like "you say tow-mah-tow and I say tow-may-tow!" . :D

For me, Pop's is great, perhaps a touch pricey, but considering the portions, wife and I enjoy it. Thanks for posting YCNE.

Are you saying they don't load the food with salt? As someone that grew up on no salt / low salt foods I hate it when places throw in the salt by the handfull to make it "taste good". Must be why I loved the onion rings I had at Pop's.

We make our own breading.same recipe for the last 50 years or so. It has no salt in it. Most places use clam fry mix for a breader. It contains alot of salt, dehydrated egg and alot of other things that shouldn't be put on a clam before it goes for one last swim in hot shortening.

See you in the spring!
