Fall Boating
Had the oppurtunity to go out on the boat Saturday Septeber 26. What a georgeous day. Dressed appropriately and enjoyed every minute. Hardly any boat traffic, no bonehead moves.....
I thought our season was over but I am hoping for more beautiful Saturdays in the fall! Just thought I would share that with all of you! |
Shhhh!! ;)
This is the BEST time of year on Lake Winni! You are going to let the best kept secret out of the bag! :D:D

+1! It truly is the best time (month) of the year on the lake!
No, wait - what I meant to say was, it's an awful time on the lake and no one should go out because they feel like they are missing out. ;):D |
Beautiful day!
I was out on the water as well and your right it was beautiful! Considering it was the last weekend for lake trout and salmon fishing, I thought I would see more fisherman. Absolutely gorgeous day and the fishing was great!
|
Ditto to all the above, best time of year to boat is right now. Be prepared though, if you have a problem it might be quite some time before someone comes your way to help. I bring a cell phone with me and a list of numbers to call in case I break down or have a medical emergency.

September into Columbus Day
Have always been the best time to go boating for the last 30 years! I was out yesterday afternoon and it was heaven!
Not only should you dress warm. I usually stay a little further away from shore and bouys. The lake gets low. I saw 'Sea Tow' boat out yesterday. Looks like you can get a tow this late in the season. Boat seems to perform much better in the cooler weather. Thanks to God, the Boneheads are gone! Have fun! :D |
We went out yesterday too, and I agree it was heavenly. It was probably our last ride as the boats are going to be pulled on Thurs. It is a sad time of year.
|
I agree..we spent the whole day Sat on the Lake...it was great.
I did see 3 Captain Boneheads: 2 violated the 150 rule to other vessels and one blasted through the no wake near Governors Island and waved at us  |
Fall cruising on the lake was always my favorite time. It was a shame that it did not last long enough.
|
My wife and I were out on the lake for a few hours Saturday afternoon and it had to be one of the best boating days all season. There weren't many boats out and the weather was beautiful. We went up to Lees Mills to check out that part of the lake that we don't know. Unfortunately we did have a bonehead experience so I would disagree that they're gone.

I'm jealous
Since Friday, we've had between 15 and 35 knot winds. Until Monday, the waves were between 3 and six feet, more in the broad lake. I guess I should consider this a blessing, since Lake Michigan had 13' to 18' waves
I truly want to boat some more before the W word is used. :( Seriously, glad everyone that could took advantage of it. |

That said, what happened to you? |
I agree about the tighter quarters in that part of the lake but that wasn't the main problem. A bass boat came out of nowhere flat out passing us from behind within 150 feet. No sooner had he passed us he stopped dead in the water right in front of us. There was a red marker that was causing him some confusion so he figured it was safer to stop and check it out than to worry about getting hit from behind. Never had that happen before. Then, closer to Lees Mills he passed us again flat out. At least this time he didn't stop. My wife made sure I kept my mouth shut but it was hard. The few other boaters we encountered were very cordial and we all waved to each other as we enjoyed the day.

I love seeing people new to the Moultonborough Bay area make a north westerly bee-line for the narrow part of the bay after passing FL12 and then come to a rapid halt while scrambling to get the chart open as they spot the rocks poking out of the water at split ledge (FL13). On the Duncan chart, it looks like a nearly straight shot, but in reality, you have to zig zag quite a bit between FL12 and FL13. |
Fresh off the lake
We have my son's scout troop here this weekend for a boating weekend and we werent going to let a little liquid sunshine stop us- bravado aside it was 50degrees and raw out there today, a much better day for napping than boating! Four of the kids even went tubing.
Hopefully next weekend will cooperate for our annual foliage slow cruise. |
last boating day on Saturday...
What a spectacular day on Saturday! Spent some time on the island and then motored over to visit with Misty Blue in Braun Bay. Took the long way home around the southern end of Bear Island and didn't see anyone else out on the water all the way back to Y-Landing.
Pulling the Eastern this week, and then will keep the Alumacraft skiff in till the ice forms :) PIG |
Last Ride of 2009

mine is in intil 11/30 at Sheps, I am heading up on Saturday to close up, we were the this past weekend Sunday was a bonus day.
|
We are going to spend the weekend on ours this Saturday and Sunday. This will be our last trip for the season. I believe we are the last in our marina.....
We are at Irwin's in Laconia and I can't give them enough credit for all the efforts they make to insure we enjoy our boating experiences. Even though the economy has hurt cash flow for everyone, the Marina's have taken a major hit. My perception is Irwin's has not cut any of the customer facing services that many other companies were forced to do. |
i think there is 6 or so boats still in the water where i work. all the die-hards never give up when its cold. also some are year round people. gotta get to main land some how.
