I'm looking at over a foot of snow down here in Pawtucket. How's it going up there?

Snow!

Thanks! I finished shoveling a little while ago, and I have to revise my estimate. More like a foot and a half and upwards.

No snow here

In the northeast part of the lake, about 10 snowflakes fell around noon and another three just now. The ice is 3" thick and so clear you can see the the bottom of the lake, six feet down, through it.

There were 2 guys ice fishing up on Hills Pond on Alton Mountain yesterday afternoon. Not enough ice thickness for this ole geezer.:)

Does the ice get thicker faster with snow cover or without?

Without.

The snow acts as a blanket and insulates the cold air from the relatively warm water. You do not quickly grow good, "black", solid ice with a thick layer of snow on top.

Lite snow

We had a nice snow here in Joisy kind of lite and powdery. A bit south (down the shore) they had nearly 2ft. (Cal you digging out?)

Hold on the lake will get it's share. As for ice I just looked a snake eyes and it seems windy on the broads. That does not bode well for ice forming.

Today I saw people skating on a portion of the frozen over part of the lake. I wouldn't have dared but some people start early. It just froze over two days ago because despite the frigid temps, it had been calm. It was very windy today, too windy for any freezing on parts that aren't frozen as you said, gtx.

A little to the south of you, in North Kingstown, 15 to 17 inches with higher drifts in the driveway. :mad: I would gladly send it to the Lakes Region. ;)
