Very Cold Morning!

The air temperature is currently 0 degrees at the lake in West Alton. I took this photo around 8am looking out at Sleepers, Cub, Treasure and Rattlesnake Islands. Cub is the island in the center of the photo. The icy fog floating above the ice is very pretty.

Very Cold Morning

Thanks for the incredible picture DRH. I enjoy your shots because they remind me of fun times at the sand bar just north of you. I can't wait for the Ice Out shots, those are my favorite! It means I'll be on the water again soon.

Breathtaking!

Thanks for sharing, DRH. This is now on my desktop.... Monday's weather will change this for sure. DBA

Nice. I am wondering about fog setting up on Monday now. They said the rain is now going to hold off until Monday instead of Sunday. Then the big freeze. Can't wait for the rain to melt the snow and then freeze up. Oh Boy!:rolleye1:

Bear Island South 01-23-2010 06:39 PM

Heat up a frying pan and swirl it around on the sheets just before bedtime. :)

The older I get, the more I believe that comfort is not just for wussies...

This morning around 8am I got to my bobhouse on alton bay and the fog was lifting and all the trees surrounding the bay were all covered in white ice crystal, breathtaking, what a way to start the day!

Thanks for the nice comment, Chaos. Glad you enjoy the photos.

Brrr

Thanks for the picture, DRH. Took the liberty of adding it to my Photo Gallery. It will definitely put in perspective the 15-18 degree days we have just had here, and will bring back to my husband his bobhouse days of old!

DailyWolfeboro 01-24-2010 01:22 PM

Nice photo.

I read a story the other day about a Holiday Inn in the UK that was instituting a new bed warming service. Two volunteer employees would dress in a head to toe suit and lay in your bed long enough to warm it up. I wonder if they would come out to Bear Island?:D

Electric mattress pads are wonderful for cold camps. The queen size has controls for each side, so you can have a cooler side and your wife a warmer one. I have them on all my beds and guests are very appreciative.

I purchased an electric mattress pad at The Christmas Tree Shop ($19.99) right after the holidays. What a difference it makes! I highly recommend it.

DRH - great photo

Pepper 01-24-2010 07:37 PM

An electric mattress pad! What a phenomenal idea!!! :D The older I get, the more I dread the cold sheets in the winter. My little heating pad does great, but only heats a teeny patch. Looks like I'll be heading over to Amazon and searching out a new mattress pad. Thanks!!! ;)

Island Girl 01-24-2010 08:58 PM

JC Penney

I always order mine from JC Penney. The Christmas Tree Shop price sounds phenomenal.

By the way, Pepper, I pre heat the bed an hour or more ahead of time. This also allows me to keep the heat lower at night, warm bed, cool air; great for sleeping.

I'll say ...

The Christmas Tree Shop price IS phenomenal! I couldn't find one for less that $79 when I checked. I guess that purchase will wait a while ... :rolleye2:

I'll say ...

electric wife warmer

my wife went to bed first and had it all warmed up by the time I came to bed...what would I do without her :D

we are definately investing in the the mattress pad, thanks for the xmas tree shop reference, she loves going there

Pepper

You might want to check Walmart for the electric mattress pad. That's where I got mine a few years ago.

BroadHopper 01-25-2010 10:10 AM

Flannel Sheets

Nothing like flannel sheets. They warm up fast and keep you toasty all night and morning!

hilltopper 01-25-2010 12:36 PM

I'm with BroadHopper. They really don't require any warmup at all!

robmac 01-25-2010 01:12 PM

I usually find find my two labs laying on the bed warming it when I go to bed.

jmen24 01-25-2010 05:16 PM

Yup, flannel sheets and a Pointer. Keeps that electric bill low as well.

DRH, I asked the wife if she wanted a winter lake background for her PC. She took one look from across the room and yelled, hey thats Echo Shores! Her parents sold there place there in the late 80's

Great pic but it would look better to me in July :)
