Boat Storage ?
Looking for boat storage in Gilford area, where I can leave my 21' bow-rider,
during the Spring-Summer-Fall seasons. Boat on trailer, and will be using during these seasons. Will not need winter storage. Not necessarily looking for storage at a marina ! Any suggestions ? Bigdog |
Dave's
I would recommend Dave's Motorboat Shop. He is a great guy and does excellent service work. He has a pretty good size facility with lots of storage. His prices are reasonable as well. Here is a link to his web site.

Launching?
Hopefully you are a Gilford resident. Given all the controversy on boat launching in that community, that could be a problem if not kept in a marina. :rolleye1:

Boat Storage ?
Feedback to Forum...
Checked Dave's Motor Boat... he wants about $600 for season, just for leaving boat on trailer his yard! Glendale Marine wants $30 per ft outside storage. 20' boat = $600 ! Anyone have extra space on their property and want to make some money? Was thinking of $50 month? If you have a farm or a lot of land where trailer would be out of the way...... Send me a PM if interested or know someone who may be interested. Thanks, Bigdog |
Bigdog, I think most of the cost is related to winterizing, bottom wash and shrink wrap. I don't think you'd save much by moving the boat elsewhere.
If you have an outboard...you can do it yourself. Hull cleaner is only about $15 and takes about 20 minutes and shrink wrap is around $200, I believe. |
BD,I pay 700.00 for winter storage indoor with normal winterizing. I personally don't like shrinkrap because if not done right the boat doesn't breath and come springtime you can have issues with the interior. And winterizing comes with oil change.

i think Bigdog is looking for in season
storage.. I get the idea he wants to leave his boat at the lake to make the use of it more convenient. He says in his first post that he isn't looking for winter storage.

bigdog, do you have a place to lauch? I see you want a storage spot but unless you have a place to launch and can leave your trailer you'll still get hit with launch/park fees.
If you do "dry storage" on the trailer during the season, $600 is about right if the place also has a launch. Some are a little higher. |
Dave's Motorboat Shoppe
is the simplest way to go. You not only have year round storage, you also have two top-notch mechanics on the premise and better than average ship store. I'd give them a call.
Since I live in the area, and on permanent lay off, I found a place to store my boat dirt cheap by using Craigslist and LaDaSun. Have to trailer a little further but it is worth it. |

Anyone storing over the winter should remove everything from the boat (including battery) and bring inside if possible. Removing carpets (if possible) is another way to reduce moisture being trapped in the boat. Nothing worse than a big mushroom or black mold growing on your vinyl:eek: |
No shrinkwrap.
I agree wth the above on no shrinkwrap. If the boat was still moist when shrinkwraped you have to deal with mold on the seats and mushrooms on the carpets come spring.
For years I use a heavy duty boat cover on a frame made with wood strappings. Never had a problem. I ran 4 gallons of RV antifreeze thru the motor, bring the batteries in the house and I am ready for the winter. This year because of the economy and many warehouses/mfg buildings empty you will find inside storage cheap. I found one on craigslist. A squeaky clean heated building for $15 a foot. |
I simply use my mooring cover with wood bracing to protect the windshield, after running a few gallons of RV anti-freeze through, some ethanol fuel stabilizer pull the battery put on the cover park her give a pat on the hull and say I'll see ya in March. Never had an issue.

Boat Storage
Forum....
I'm a Gilford resident, so should be able to launch in Glendale docks for nada ! Just looking for a small spot to park trailer between usage. 21 bow-rider, trailer probably 24-25' overall max ! Going to hunt out some local places around town...... |
BD I don't recall what they charge but if you are just looking for a place to park your boat during the season what about the Gilford Self-Storage place across the street from the airport?

Portable shed - glad I didn't
I really wanted to buy a portable shed last fall to store my boat for the winter. I'm glad I didn't. One of my neighbors had one in his side yard to store his 4 wheelers and other stuff. I noticed it that it had blown over after the strong winds Thursday night and is now upside down. Not sure he used anchors but the way it was blowing I don't think they would have helped.

Boat Storage
Airwaves...
Someone I know here in Gilford also metioned boat storage at Gilfor Self-Storage.... Stopped by there, Sat., sometime after 3pm, but placed was closed and nobody around... Will circle back there this week, to check about this. Person I kow said they charge maybe $60-70 a month. That's a lot less than quoted at other boat yards, and marina in the area for about $600-800 from May Oct Thanks, BD |
