What would you be doing instead of viewing the internet?
So I admit it, I spend (waste) too much time on the internet. In fact I sometimes have my laptop on the couch while watching television.
So what would you be doing if not for the internet time wasting? 1. I would be exercising more and getting outdoors more often during the winter. 2. I would get more hobbies (although my wife already thinks I have too many. Nah, never:D) And hopefully Don will fix the title....... Maybe my next hobby is to improve my typing accuracy. |
Waste vs. worthwhile?
Are we separating these out? For waste:
My all-time favorite is to sit and stare mindlessly at TV with several cups of coffee in the AM...2 hours, well within the realm, when circumstances will allow. In the PM, watching the stuff I have DVR'd from TV, trying not to think about when the last time was that I read a book! More worthwhile: Exercising...walking, wellness center, yard work and all that stuff! Helping out someone---neighbor, friend---who needs it. This week I did cook for a lady who sprained both ankles (that's bad!). Pleased my husband in the process, as he also got a pumpkin pie out of it--and he didn't even have to hurt himself! And finally...plan to read a book!! |
Hey LP....I think we are long separated twins.....:D
Seriously though, not much else to do in Winter time, except shovel snow for me. Well, I am going to Kauai to get married in three weeks.... In the warmer days I like to drive my little Shelby Cobra, ride the Harley, do some light hiking, and a little working around the house. Top off a Saturday with a nice chunk o' Prime Rib at the Village Kitchen too!:liplick: |
Well, there's work, of course. I have a home-based business but it includes attending many of the town and school meetings. Additionally, I'm working on several cyber projects - genealogy, Alton history, and a blog about raising our children. I come here as my "coffee break" during the day and appreciate the camaraderie of those who love this part of our beautiful state. I'm very proud of my town and love to talk about it.

I spend plenty of time on the Internet with my laptop, in front of my TV (and fireplace) in the Winter, but I also make it a point to be active, preferably outside, every day. For instance, my neighbor (favorite walking/cycling partner) and I did a 7+ mile walk on each day this weekend. It was cold, but not unbearably so and the sun was really bright both days. If I can't get outside, I use my elliptical machine, and do sit ups, push ups, and chin ups for an hour each day. It keeps me sane and reasonably healthy. In the Spring/Summer/Fall, I'm substantially more active and beat the snot out of my old mountain bike or hike all the time. I live near Pawtuckaway State Park and really enjoy the excellent trail system there. Now if I could just eat less...

Cool, I just noticed my 1,000th post.
I wonder if 1,000th is a word? |

Lawn Psycho......Don't let anyone know you're wasting time. Do what I do...pretend to be working...keep the screen turned away and the sound down.Furrow your brow like you're deep into a project (instead of chatting on winni.com)

I've been online for so long, I honestly cannot remember some of the systems I used. Telnet, Genie, very early predecessors to AOL, don't remember there were so many. I remember being on an early Apple system that was later merged into AOL. But back then 100 to 1200 baud modems were the latest.
I've had the same online moniker since 1993, and can't bear to change it. I think being online has been a double-edged sword. Much less personal, while enabling people to be much more personable with many more people. More contact and exposure is better than less. Depending on content, and attention to the necessities of life, of course. |

When not on the internet, I count the days until I go to the lake again.
But seriously, I take lots of pictures, scrapbook, drive children to school, pick children up from school, drive said children's friends home from school because their parents don't and they live too far from school to walk, read, browse the library, watch TV and, oh, yeah, work once in a while. Mostly, I dream about August and imagine a warm breeze coming off the Broads and pictures a view of the mouth of Alton Bay. Heaven on earth. nj2nh |

Ignore me because I'm a baby boomer
Viewing the internet? There is something else? Oh yeah, Newspapers. I remember them. I still get a daily delivery. I still like waking up with my newspaper. But from what I read, newspapers are going away. Too bad. I like newspapers. Figure out a way to keep newspaers alive! I'll pay a dollar a day!
