Lake Tempature
 

:( The lake temp. seems to be rapidlly dropping. Its now down to 72 Deg. could the sunmmer that we have not even had yet be coming to a close? :eek:

If the temp has indeed peaked (doubtful, but certainly possible), one potentially good result will be fewer algae blooms -- which normally occur at this time. Diving last week, I noticed far less "Lake Snot" is shallower, warmer waters than in years past.

I couldn't help but laugh at your comment about the famous "Lake Snot".

I have certainly noticed the lack of the goop this year.

By the way, have you seen any big smallies in your diving adventures this year? The cooler water conditions have likely contributed to some better than average sizes this year in multiple locations. Normally the average depths for better fish has been 20' to 35' near drop off's surrounding the broads, but that's not the case this year.

Hard as it is to believe, if you look at the temp histories for the past several years the water temperature usually starts dropping about now...:(

One Boston news station noted last week that we normally have 12 90+ degree days in a summer. We've had 1! in the Boston area anyway. Maybe none here in the Lakes region. With the nasty winter we had, it's not right!!!!!

Yes, I've seen a good number of NICE sized smallmouths during dives this year -- primarily because we usually dive in ideal bass haunts, which are areas with "structure" (walls, shoals, islands, etc. with shallow waters bordering much deeper water). In fact, last Friday evening on the DWC "TGIF" charter, I saw three VERY nice sized smallies hanging together. Of course, everything looks 30% bigger underwater, so I usually try to get really close (they will let you, and are curious and often follow you) and then use my hand as a gauge. I'd say two of these three were three and a half to four pounds -- minimum. Great to see. We used to catch fish that size all the time. Not so much anymore, with all the tournaments taking them to the marinas and then releasing them there. But they ARE out there -- I've seen big fish on every dive this year.

Now why can't those fish be around when I'm angling and not diving????? :confused: :D

Looks like you got your answer.

Try the usual spots up near Center Harbor or Sally's.

If you want to try a spot that gets a great deal of diver attention, go to Glendale and fish the sunken boats. If there are any divers there, perhaps you can ask them to feed your baits to the smallies that are following them -- just kidding.

By the looks of things, it takes the green fish now to come in at the top. But some 3 lb. smallies would definitely help :laugh:
