Channel 5 tonight

BI was interviewed by channel 5, airs tonight 11pm. Some questions were about the lake.

Bear Islander 03-24-2010 10:52 AM

Sorry, the stuff about the lake ended up on the cutting room floor. Here is a link for anyone interested.

Wow! I know you've spoken about this in the past, but very cool.

Good luck and keep us posted on the departure status (actually, more on the Paris Hilton stuff, if you don't mind).

BI, didn't know about your son, very sorry for his passing. I cant imagine the pain that brought to you. Richard was nice enough to e-mail me from Antartica last year on his sailing adventure there. Live your dreams but also allow others to live theirs because they might be different.

Amazing story! Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. I look forward to hearing more about your flight into space. :)

You may have seen the wooden bear on Bear Island facing Pine Island. It was purchased from donations as a memorial to our son Stetson. During the summer many boats with children visit "Phillip the Bear."

This would be a great post to have the THANK YOU button.. But since it doesn't. Thank you for your post. I will always make sure I tell my guests.

Great story on Channel 5. Take care!

Sorry to hear about your son. I live across from Beaver Island and always take the children by your place to see the bear. While here in Naples Florida for the winter the first thing I do every morning is to check your Bear Cam to see what is happening on the lake and get ready for the treck home..
Good luck in your journey.

Sorry to hear...............

about the loss of your son at a very tender age. The bear 'memorial' is fitting as it gives many children something to look forward to. Now that I know the story behind it, I would let my daughters know.

Good Luck on your flight. What a bucket list!

jayp603 03-25-2010 06:45 AM

BI,

You have always shared a piece of your adventures with us, and that is just a testament to the type of person you are. Although you are doing these things for yourself, you don't mind letting us in on the adventure to some degree.

I have of course seen the bear by your place on the Island. I never realized the significance. I know there are now words to say about the loss so I will not. (Yep, even big stubborn guys like me get tears in my eyes about things like this).

Hopefully someday at a forum fest or by some chance meeting we will have the chance to meet. You strike me as the type of person that makes everyone that much better of just for having known.

ok not to mention, I think your a great debate opponent!!!....

Lakesrider 04-27-2010 07:51 PM

Wow. I too have motored by "The Bear" not knowing it was a memorial to a lost son. Now that I know, I will give it a little nod and a little wink, and say a prayer.

So what's the earliest you could expect to go up? WAY FREAKING COOL!!

Given the steep price I hope they at least keep you updated fairly often.

When I fly depends on how the current testing program goes. I hope it's in about a year.

Virgin Galactic has a website where future astronauts can get together. And there are special events, adventure trips etc. We also have some astronaut training we go through like zero-g flights and riding the centrifuge at the National Space Training Center. I have been centrifuged to 6 gravities, a fantastic ride.
