NH Liquor Commission falling apart

On Saturday night (April 17) NH Liquor Commissioner Richard Simard was arrested for driving while intoxicated and Chairman Mark Bodi is currently on paid leave...So...what is going to happen with the commission now that two of three people are most likely not going to be present during meetings?

I can't say for sure what is going to happen. But this is kind of a black eye for the NH Liquor board I would think. Drink Responsible, and don't follow our example will have to be the new slogan.

Now being a bit more serious here. I assume these are appointed positions. I assume the commissioner will be asked to resign, and someone new will be appointed to the position. As for the Chairman, I am sure if he is on leave the appropriate actions have already been taken.

We, the State of NH, will pay the legal cost once again.

The commissioner was fired today. Not for DWI. But for refusing to take the breathalizer test.

I don't get it. The Gov said "he's innocent until proven guilty, so I can't fire him for DWI. I can only fire him because he refused the breathalizer test". Gov, are you saying the cops were wrong in arresting him -- because until he's convicted, he hasn't done anything wrong? Sorry, Gov, not in my book. I wouldn't wait around till he got off on a technicality, keeping him on the payroll for a few years. Be decisive, and get rid of him for the DWI. It's time to start reducing the payroll.

Humm interesting. because of the whole innocent until proven guilty piece, I would have figured he would have been strongly encouraged to resign. You know the type of encouragement that you can't refuse. However I suppose by not taking the Breathalyzer he left the open opportunity for being fired and for the gov. to send a message that someone like that is not above the law.

I would bet that we will continue to pay this guy and also his replacement. In addition in order for him to resign we will pay for his legal fees and raise his pension. Politics as usual

One does not need to be guilty of breaking a law to be fired from a job. If one's conduct is unbecoming of their job, then the employer can fire. For example, I could fail a drug test and be fired from my job, as it is in the code of conduct that I am not to do illegal drugs.

Why Is There a Liquor Commission?

Let's try six months without it. If we're OK in October, let's abolish it.

Liquor Commissioner....

I think in Kentucky the Liquor Commissioner is a Bourbon tester....taster....His job is to make sure the "proof is in the bottle" as advertised. Maybe this NH Commish thought he had that job, too!

Mee-n-Mac 04-20-2010 06:27 PM

A new position

So might there be a new position opening up in NH for a qualified person ? I'll even work for free, all NH has to do is provide the articles to be tested !

Why are you being so hard on the guy? He was obviously doing some quality control work and product testing in the field. Every CEO should be out there testing the company product in the marketplace.

The Proof "in his "tasting".....

When Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda was questioned on Capitol Hill he was reported to have said, "I no test Toyota.....drive BMW.....Toyota go to FAST!!!!"

Bill Samuels, the owner of Makers Mark, samples lotsa samples of the best sippin' whiskey known to Bourbon afficianados ...he cares about his quality control....

The New Hampshire Liquor Commissioner was just doing the same....hope he didn't hurt himself when he stumbled in CJ' s parking lot.

They do, they do ! I've seen 'em out in the dark on the lake. Odd greenish glow but I guess it attracts fish. I asked them what they were doing and they said "Just fission".

:eek2:
