Boating from Wolfeboro bay to Lake Wentworth
Is there any channel to get from one area to another?
|
Although close by, Wentworth is about 30 feet higher at 535 feet.

ahhhh.....
I didn't realize that, every year at Wolfeboro docks I see boats heading out from under the bridge and I always assumed that the lakes were connected. I guess they aren't, It looked like it on the map though.

 Unless the river happens to be dry! Then you'd have to jump over the falls! Actually if you want to go from lake to lake by boat, you can join in the Smith River Canoe Race which goes from Lake Wentworth to Lake Winni. It is an annual event in May and is great fun to watch if you don't want to race.

I have often wondered why some of the lakes in the area, never got connected via lockes...... Now of course the expenditure to take on such a project would be out of sight. But in years gone by...... anyways.... just a passing thought

Lake Wentworth to Winnipesaukee 5/22/10
It was already mentioned, but the Smith River Canoe race is a blast and one of the only (probably THE only, never heard of another one in 13 years) organized runs from Wentworth to Winnipesaukee.
See www.lwa.org, the Lake Wentworth Association Web site. The race has many classes for canoes, kayaks, men, women, mixed, age, etc.... There is a dam at Crescent Lake that is lowered for the race and a short white water run up to a portage that lets you take your vessel to Back Bay (Winni..). I've done it a few times, photographed friends doing it and had fun either way. |

Here's a LINK to some photos I took of the 2005 race |
Ah Dr. Selle! Doesn't he look like he is having fun!

"lowering" a dam?
What does "lowering" the Crescent Lake dam mean? To let more water through so the river is navigable? I always wondered how the boats got down that river. Its usually pretty shallow.
