Busy Day!!!
Okay, here is the ultimate hypothetical question.....what's the busiest you have seen the lake? I've got to say with today's ideal weather, coupled with a lousy summer, today hit the mark of what I have ever seen. I thought it even topped some 4th of July's.

I don't think I've ever seen more boats on Merrymeeting. Yesterday was a record setter.

July 4th Weirs Channel Cam - for comparison...
Here's a post from Scott of the Weirs Channel Cam for comparison.

Circus
I came home Saturday from the lake during the rain and the Sunday weather was so nice I was itching to go back. I checked the various web cams around the lake and I had never seen so many boats! I figured I was glad I wasn't there and you confirmed it. Thanks, now I don't feel so bad.

Nutty Sunday
Sunday was bright, sunny, and a bit cool. It was the craziest weekend-day of the season, though.
Today, on the other hand, was A Perfect Day -- with very few boats. One 28-footer was followed by a Jet-Ski, and they stopped about 600 feet off my dock. The Jet-Ski operator jumped off his Jet-Ski and into his skis -- leaving the Jet-Ski abandoned and riderless in the middle for about 30 minutes while he skied! (Is this "dropping a 'Ski"?) I know it's illegal to "cast-off another's boat" but what about casting off your own boat? (Well, sort-of boat). Sunday, it would have been clobbered for sure. I saw one really close call -- with screams -- on Sunday. A white-over-blue, ~25-foot Cobalt, whose middle-aged operator was wearing a bright red shirt, and was returning to fallen -- and screaming -- teen wakeboarder in the path of two side-by-side racing...um...whachamacallit boats. Nearest operator raised his arm to indicate he saw the wakeboarder, but still passed him one boat length away. Things were quiet on the Colbalt for a time, but they resumed wakeboarding. Whatta ya goin' to do? |
I would have called MP for sure if I saw that abandoned jet-ski...what an idiot!
