Getting To Alton Bay

What's the best/quickest way to get to Alton Bay from Moultonborough? Driving, not in a boat. :D

No traffic, slow day, counterclockwise.

High traffic summer weekends, go clockwise

NoBozo 04-27-2010 07:14 PM

I wouldn't go to Alton Bay. It's Too Far. :D NB

Lakesrider 04-27-2010 07:20 PM

Well depends from where in Moultonborough. If near the Center Harbor line then keep going through Meridith and head south around the lake. But if near say the Tuftonboro, or Suissevale side then go down rt 109, through Wolfeboro. It was repaved last year so it is still fairly good and much less traffic....IMHO.:D
Just watch out for the Turkeys and Deer bounding across the road in spots during the early morning hours....:D

Suissevale to Wolfeboro is 15 miles another 10 will get you to Alton Bay.

And then have a nice, leisurely sit at the red blinking light as you wait your position to make that left-hand turn in Wolfeboro... and wait...and wait...

Lakesrider 04-27-2010 08:58 PM

Ok I give...What blinking red light. I go there everyday. and they won't have to take the left if you mean the one at the gas stations. Maybe you are thinking of coming into Wolfeboro via RT109 A. Then yes you get stuck waiting to go left. But mainly in the Summer months. Heck sometimes it takes 20 minutes to get from the High school to the Wolfeboro Inn.....:(

Can't get here from there.

Yeah, that's the one alright.

Thank you Lakesrider, yes, it would be from Suissevasle. Well...Thank you all actually... :D Doesn't sound like either way is simple for me, but I will trek there one weekend when I'm up.

Sorry, Alton's closed. Try Meredith.

I remember a number of years ago Maine had a budget crisis of some sort and the government had to shut down for a while. Well, there was a hardware store on Rt. one in Portsmouth just before the Kittery bridge, and they posted on their sign: "SORRY, MAINE IS CLOSED." Scores of irate tourists turned their cars around and went back to NY, CT, MA, etc.

There were so many complaints from these dummies that the state of MAINE told them to take it down or else.

That is HILARIOUS!!! I'm sorry, but if someone is dense enough to believe that a State is closed ... :rolleye2:

As big as the lake is from in the water, it is amazing how big it is to "drive around".

State Closed

1978: Rhode Island. The BIG Blizzard of '78. Pictures taken from aircraft show I-95 North into Rhode Island from Connecticut, I-195 West into Rhode Island from Massachusetts , and I-95 South into Rhode Island from Massachusetts .. PLOWED CLEAR... UP TO The Rhode Island Border.
.....Clearly, The plows from our neighboring states did their job right up to the RI Border. Inside RI..THREE Feet of SNOW which shut down the state for over a week. There were cars and trucks stuck in that snow which were IN THE WAY of plows which might have just cleared the way.

What no one wants to talk about To This Day: The RI DOT (Union) was conducting a "Slow Down" over some grievence they had.

STATE CLOSED ....C'mon back later Y'all :look: NB

PS: You can't make this stuff up...

Yup, but we didn't need a sign to say the state was "closed".

I spent that night in the Warwick Police Station .... with 300 other people that could not get home.
