Victorian House in Gilford

I have not posted before on this restaurant review forum but thought I would throw out my two cents on a great restaurant in Gilford. The Victorian House is a wonderful dining experience. The food is well prepared and presented. The wine list is varied and not over priced. The other drinks are wonderful. It is not a large restaurant and the owners live on the premise and are trying very hard. The chef really produces fine meals. I do not know the owners personally, I met them when my wife and I first went to the restaurant. They don't know my name and I don't know theirs. My reason for posting is when I have enjoyed a great dining experience and there are not many in the lakes region I would like to see it suceed, so I can enjoy it again and again. Give it a try, I believe it really is worth it.

On weekends I live practically across the street, so you've piqued my curiousity. What type of food do they serve? Is it expensive? Will I feel comfortable in beach clothes?

Victorian House

I second RAI's endorsement. In response to your questions, although it may look a bit "casual" on the outside, the Victorian House is a bit more formal on the inside. I would describe the food as gourmet American, the atmosphere as romantic and relaxing and the prices as appropriate (around $20 a plate, give or take...if I remember correctly...but RAI was kind enough to treat). It's a beautiful old house in the woods, with a staff that has been eager to please. Give it a try, I think you'll enjoy it.

I agree.

It has been a couple of years since we have eaten there, but the food was first class, formal, elegant, delicious...and expensive.

Hi all,

We have always had good luck with the Victorian House in Gilford. We often eat there during the winter and were there just a couple of weeks ago. I often order duck as a metric of the quality of a restaurant. The duck I had a few weeks ago was one of the best dishes that I have ever had.

The one surprising thing was that they were not particularly busy. This restaurant is deserving of our patronage...make me wait next time. :) Just kidding...good place.

We live in Gilford and drive by there all the time! Do they serve lunch? I amd more of a lunch than a dinner person. We would love to try it!

The place is old and smells like my grandmothers house.

I've have gone to Victorian House many past times over the past 5 years, or so. Have brought many friends and family, and have always had excellent meal and service. Everything from the home made mini muffins and breads to start, to the complimentary chocolate truffles at the end, have been high quality. Have never had a bad meal.
I was disappointed to discover that they have closed for the winter season, and will re-open in the spring. Can't wait until spring......... :liplick:

Wasn't that place called the Christmas Tree Inn about 20 years ago?

This place sure looks like it has been closed for the last few months, the sign is down and the wonderful plantings were not there this summer. Anyone know what happened?

They went out of business

I am not sure why...but they are no longer in business. I thought that they had a quaint atmosphere and good food.

I noticed that also, although I seem to think it was last year that I noticed they didn't appear to be open..... Will be interesting to hear more!

Victorian House

I'm told it was purchased and is in the process of being converted into apartments for rent.

My daughter looked into renting there.

It's not $1 anymore.:)

I'll get more info and post later.
