Ain't it the truth.

New Hampshire may not be as hardscrabble as it once was, but with a small population base it is tougher to succeed than at many metropolitan areas.

My family moved there from out of state, sought careers, and are happy, but it would never have worked for me: not enough people to support my chosen vocation.

Which is a shame, really: a beautiful place with very nice people: just not enough of them (which is probably why it is still a nice place to visit).

Good luck, and remember, there's always room for a great pastry shop in Portland (Oregon, that is).
