What Veterans Day means to me
Today, I think of my dad and how he never complained about the damage to his body caused in WW-II in the pacific.
I think of my Uncle (mothers brother-in-law) that lost a brother on D-Day, had a brother MIA in Italy and found after the war in a German POW camp and a brother damaged by the horrors of battle in Italy.
I think of childhood friend KIA in Vietnam and of my friends and fellow soldiers who died in Southeast Asia.
I have included below the copy of an e-mail I sent my son serving as a USMC Lt and my son-in-law, a USMC Staff Sgt and Senior crew chief....... both of them heading off to war in 2010
...............
Pat and Shawn,
Let me take a minute today to express my pride, support and heartfelt THANK YOU to both of you for your service to the country I love, and the family we belong too.
The sacrifice that you have already made Shawn, being away from family on three combat deployments and that both of you will experience in 2010 is a testament to the character and patriotism of your both.
As a veteran of that sacred oath 45 years ago, I stand proud to salute you both
Be safe my sons
Love , Dad
