It's a row-canoe that uses two oars similar to a Piantedosi (
www.rowingrigs.com) setup, and by making a lantern holder from bent bamboo that looks somewhat like a '?' so's to hold the lantern suspended correct. This is all very olde designs from "How to Oar Your Boat" from 1947.
