Are they inside or outside your house? Do they look like carpenter ants with wings?
At some point in the spring, carpenter ants hatch with wings and swarm all over the place. They are flying around looking for a new nesting site.

If they are inside, you may have a carpenter ant nest which you'll want to find and have it treated.

I'm no expert but a picture would help.
