The fire on Rattlesnake Island happened when my husband was a teenager. It was a devastating event, particularly because there were no fireboats back then. Hubby and his friends were out in a boat and were pressed into service, assisting the bucket brigade that was fighting that fire. He remembers it well.

As for the fires in Canada, we're likely to experience smoke for several days. It may dissipate when the winds change direction, but could easily return if the wind shifts again. Even with the sophisticated firefighting equipment of today, it will take many days to extinguish these huge fires. The firefighters being dispatched from New England states expect to be in Canada for up to 16 days.

Please pray for them, and for our Canadian neighbors whose regions are affected by the fires.
