There is a proper lighting sequence for a vessel that isn't "under command" (but moving). In a busy boating circumstance, I'd use common sense.
Just a reminder that
anchoring at night on Lake Winnipesaukee is
not permitted; also, that the Captain is the
sole party responsible for safe operation of the vessel—and the safe return of his passengers—
regardless of the lighting of any object or hazard.
