Yes, our dad also made 50 gal of hard cider every year with the barrel kept in a separate dirt floor "vegetable" cellar. The left over from the previous year went into the micro still to make cider brandy.
Of course when my brother and I were growing up we
never snuck down to get a glass or two when the parents were not home.
