Oh yes, how I remember that glorious day in May of ’71 when McD.’s opened its doors. We couldn’t wait to have our first burgers, but all of Laconia turned out that first day, so we waited until the crowds lessened. Never had heard the word cholesterol so we enjoyed every bite with no worry of what it might do to us 40 years later. I was young and foolish back then - now I’m old and foolish. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

The old building is a huge pile of rubble tonight – not a trace of the counter where we stood and ordered our first shakes and fries. Sigh…….
