The NH DOT held an informational meeting at the Alton Town Hall last December 15 to discuss a Rt. 11 highway improvement project that will take place this year. The section of Rt. 11 between Butler Road and Minge Cove Rd., a stretch of about 3.9 miles, is going to be resurfaced, guardrails replaced, and the rock cliffs near the "Scenic View" are going to be "scaled", which involves removing loose and falling rock and stabilizing the rock face.
At that meeting there was also discussion about the section of Rt. 11 between Minge Cove Rd. and Ellacoya State Park that is in poor condition. Due to state budgetary constraints, and the pending Rt. 11 bypass proposal, that section of roadway is not scheduled for reconstruction until at least 2010, and possibly as far out as 2013.
The DOT isued a "
Conference Report" on January 13, 2005 that provides additional information.
