Default Water Turnover

The water (north of M'boro bay) is 39 degrees this morning. That is the temperature at which the water turns over. The water is at its heaviest and sinks to the bottom, displacing the bottom water and exposing it to the chill. This is the transition step before ice starts to form.

Has anyone seen a transition? Is there anything to see, or can it only be detected by measuring the temperature at different levels?
