Registration on my 18' boat is 62$ I think....(age doesn't matter)

As for insurance you definitely want insurance in this day and age. With a boat in the size you are referencing, you might be able to add it as a rider to your homeowners policy. In which case the cost is pretty low... Or you can chose to have a stand alone policy for the boat... Your best bet is to discuss the issue with your insurance agent.

I personally have a stand alone policy for my boat and jet ski... and it costs me a few Hundred dollars every year....

The other recommendation when looking at the insurance aspects of owning a boat, is your tow vehicle policy. I have seen some strange things... and have found through my own investigating, that some policy don't adequately cover the vehicle in tow....which is way you want a boat policy that covers the boat and trailer....
