The same thing happened on Merrymeeting today. At noon, the whole lake was still pretty much ice covered. By sundown, large portions of the lake were open, and the remaining ice is looking very dark and fragile. I wouldn't be surprised to wake up and find it all gone.

Even more amazing, within an hour of the water opening up, we had about 20 water fowl swimming in the open water. They were far enough away I couldn't tell for sure, but through binoculars they looked like Merganzers. I'll post a picture I took of them shortly.

Here they are. Guess there were more than 20!
