I use a Canon T3.. most of the pics lately are shot with a Canon EF 70-300mm F/ 4- 5.6 IS USM lens, tho I also use a Canon EFS 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS lens.
I try to stay in the 100 or 200 ISO range, and depending on the the available natural light, I to keep my shutter speeds as high as possible. Lots of it is based on "Trial and Error"

and shooting 100's of pictures with all sorts of settings.
I learn more from my mistakes than I learn from the good ones!
Most common for "good" light, settings are usually like this:
