Knots (nautical miles) are used in locations where
navigation is regularly measured in nautical miles. (One nm = one MINUTE of latitude). Aircraft and sailboats -- particularly offshore cruising sailboats -- use knots.
Headway speed is expressed in MPH, as most boaters hop out of their automobiles and into their Winnipesaukee powerboats. Using
6MPH is probably a corruption of a
5 knot speed limit.
