On-line vs. Instructor based learning

Yes you can take the test on-line, but as Codeman671 says....

It is important for everyone to learn and clearly understand boating rules and regulations. Although you will retain some of what you learn on-line, with the ability to have more than one browser open, the amount of effort you dedicate could be equal to the amount of knowledge you gain, but a good studing tool as codeman671 pointed out. Having taken the class with an instructor and other participants, I can say first hand that there is so much more to be gained from a classroom like environment. The additional information you receive from the instructor and the interaction with the other participants is priceless and more than worth the time spent. I would strongly recommend, especially for children and first time boaters, to take the course with an instructor. They will be able to ask any questions, get clarification, see demonstrations -- all the things that an on-line situation can not offer (at least not at this time)
