This is just supply and demand. Assume there are a pretty much fixed number of waterfront properties on Winnipesaukee, but since 1950, the population has doubled. So you have to be much higher up the food chain to get one now.

The only way to fix this is to reduce the population to 1950 levels or build double the amount of properties.

There are more people now, you have to be more successful than your parents just to be a the same relative position.
