I have a NetTalk phone. Similiar to MagicJack. Different company.
Crystal clear conversations. But sporadic connections. Customer service is almost non-existent. It is inexpensive though.

I also have a Fairpoint line. Basic service for around $15.00 per month.

I have had Direct TV since the Pegasus days with almost zero problems with TV. But it is not cheap.

There have been many threads about all of this and there is no one clear consensus.

As for cell phone - normally Verizon is better up here. In my neck of the woods AT&T is spotty. Not sure about Sprint or T-Mobile.

A lot of folks are using the internet for cameras and security. What happens - when you are not here - and the modem quits or the router quits?

A good old land line telephone seems to always work. Unless, of course a tree falls on the lines. But if that happens usually everything goes out.

No one easy answer.
