I have no problem with them doing both. I think that it's a good way for the charity to raise money to try to break a record. It's kind of like car shows that raise money for a local charity as well. But if it was $5 and 1000 people showed up they would have made more than $15-20 and 200-400 showing up.
I also agree that more advertising is needed as well. But as long as it's that much to paddle out and raise my paddle, I'm out.
