Actually, it pretty much is that simple. But you also need an oven, I use an old toaster oven. I wanted to keep the double-oven we replaced with a stainless steel unit (for no reason) to be able to do larger items, but the wife didn't like that idea.

I use the ALSA gun, it works very well, especially for "little" stuff.

Actually, I've used ALSA stuff on various projects, they have a lot of cool paints and stuff. Their speed-clear is my go-to for almost everything.
