We have been through multiple speaker pairs since 1967 (@ around $700 a pair...and they all DIE.) The speaker Cones are mounted on FOAM. The foam disintegrates over time. The speaker will start to rattle...time to replace. Love my OLD KLHs.  NB

I have re-foamed several of my old Boston Acoustic speakers and 2 Alpine speakers, they came out very nice.
