New Hampshire has a mandatory boating education law. Everyone 16 years of age and older who operates a motorboat over 25 horsepower on New Hampshire waters must have a boating education certificate.
Thanks Knomad for reminding folks about getting their safe boating certificate!! I know from talking to some friends at the MP that they wrote a lot of tickets last year for people who don't have that card!! It's just like driving your car without a driver's license... I just wanted to point out that there is a difference between the "Class schedule" and the "Exam schedule" on the Dept. of Safety website... The class schedule is for people who want to sit in a classroom and be taught by Marine patrol staff... I think that is preferable (my opinion) because you can ask questions, hear explanations, and definitions, and even know what areas to focus on for questions that may be asked on the exam... Whereas, the exam schedule is for those people who take the course on line and just need to get certified... Here is the link for the class schedule... They are held everywhere around the state... It's quick and easy and once you do it, it is good for life... Never have to renew it like your driver's license... For what it's worth, I took mine at Winnisquam Marine in Belmont... They have a beautiful facility and classroom and provide restrooms and snacks... I think they try to hold one per month throughout the summer...
