Just saw a post to the effect that The Weather Channel is coming back to DirecTV. It seems that rather than lose 20% of their viewers, they agreed to make programming changes (more weather, less "reality" shows) and limit their rate increase to 1 cent per viewer.
Although I'm not on DirecTV, I'll send them a "thank you" for helping fix The Weather Channel's programming.
