Hi Lakemamma, the Shakedown Cruise is by invitation only. Wouldn't it be cool if they held some sort of contest or raffle during the season before or through Facebook, with a prize of an invitation for the Shakedown Cruise?!

I suspect that the decision to possibly cancel the Shakedown Cruise was because of the predicted late ice-out. Many were speculating a May 5th ice-out, which would have been when this first cruise was supposed to happen. A lot of planning goes into this first cruise of the year. Hiring the crew, lining up Marine Patrol, inviting guests, alerting the media and the catering... Etc.
Just like the Webmaster, I am disappointed this rite of spring may not happen this year. Hopefully they will reconsider their decision. It truly is an excellent way to start the season and such a treat for those of us on board. It seems to be fun for the few boaters, islanders and homeowners that make it a point to give us a welcoming wave. On the upside, if you book the
Mother's Day Brunch Cruise, you'll be the first passengers of the year!
