Those algae "dots" (Gloeotrichia echinulata) are further apart below the surface, and have definitely dropped in number.

Less than a week ago, they started to accumulate on the surface and I wondered if they had started to become a poisonous mat of blue-green algae.



But perhaps this time of year, the foam is made up of their disintegrating protoplasm.
