Barnstead is not on the Big Lake, and has an assessed base of less than $.5 Billion dollars. With the exception of Tuftonboro, all Lake towns have an assessed value of in excess of $1.5 Billion. Pretty easy to keep the rate down with those assessed values.
Barnstead has a tax commitment of over $11 million

, with a large chunk of that going to their share of Prospect Mt. High School.
Just noticed that Laconia has a tax rate that is just over $1 less than Barnstead, $23 vs $22 per thousand.
I do feel sorry for those residents (I have a several friends who live in the town) having such a large tax commitment with such a (relative) small tax base.
I am glad that I live in Alton.
