Lakegeezer did a great job illustrating that Excessive Speed can be 10 mph. Winnilaker and others also point out this flaw in the statistical interpretation.
Excessive Speed is relative, it is not a specific number (like 45 mph).
I believe that the US Coast Guard survey includes all areas, not just Lakes similar to Winnipesaukee. Ocean boating is a bit different.
I can not go 45 mph in my boat
(unless Columbus was wrong and I fall off the edge) but I do NOT favor any new Lake Speed restrictions.
IMHO:
It's not how fast you go, it's how you go fast!
