With the rear mounts designed to be "bottomed-out", the ¼" pin wouldn't be "in-shear", unless the tower was being pulled forward. If there's any question to their strength, a solid pin could be used.

Even under that unlikely circumstance , the pin would likely be reusable, whereas the tower material would likely be torn. It's the two front hinges that would need to be "beefy".

To keep the pins secure when back at the carport, the pins could be retained on a tether:
