I've just received a reply email from my former employee who now works as a reporter for The Citizen. He indicates that they've been experiencing many problems with the server, and that they are working diligently to correct the issues.
Prompted by Mee-n-Mac, I did a full threat-scan on my system last night. Blessedly, I found no threats beyond "minor annoyance". I guess my security systems are still working well!
