Don't depend on others news reports of "safe ice" regardless when you venture out. There are many different areas and reef's as compared to previous years. Some areas may only be 2-3 inches thick. If you don't know how to read the ice visually, you shouldn't be out there. Also keep in mind there is little snow on the ice for liquid cooled sleds. Going on the ice the remainder of this season is taking your life in your own hands. Although the temps are cold and building ice now, warmer weather is on the way. There is so much open water with wave and white cap activity. Add the winds and watch the ice break up and or shift.
