I use a drop spreader to apply ferrous sulfate, aka iron sulfate, to the lawn, the same as when applying weed n feed.

For roof moss I carry the powder in a bucket and apply two horizontal lines of zinc sulfate on each side of the roof, the upper line hugging the peak of the roof, the other about half way down; try to time the application so that a light rain follows it and dissolves the product so that it trickles down the roof and contacts and is absorbed by the moss. Avoid applying it on a windy day or before a moderate to heavy rain.
