Like you and McD, our water gets "off'ed" in late fall and then "on'ed" in a week (or two). We've been going up these past few weeks to get a start on the normal opening tasks and, for "Mee", indoor plumbing is one of those BIG things. We have heat, should we want, via the gas stove. Works well for our small hovel. But back to H2O ... so like you we have "running water"; she wants water and I run down to the lake and back to get it ! The raking goes much faster when 2 are raking rather than just myself.
