long float
It may float longer, farther than you'd imagine. Last year, I lost my burgee, mahogany pole. It drifted to a beach south of Belknap Point. The finder called the local flag manufacturer who identified the club. From there to the club website and a message to the Commodore who sent out an "all members" email, and I went and retrieved the burgee and pole. It took several days, I imagine the flag itself acted as a sea anchor preventing quick drift.
Good luck. Some mahogany poles are hard to replace. (Did you post on "I Boat on Lake Winnipesaukee" FB site?)
