"When ABS first became standard equipment on cars, many drivers were initially confused about the benefits of having the system. Today, ABS is widely considered to be one of the most important safety features available on a car, and it’s no coincidence that more and more models are coming equipped with it. Here’s a look at when ABS was first required in cars and why it’s so important.

"ABS (anti-lock braking system) became mandatory for all new vehicles sold in the U.S. in 1985. The main purpose of ABS was to prevent spinouts and hard stops in slippery or snow conditions, which could lead to an accident. Today, ABS is essential for preventing collisions in all types of driving conditions."
