Mee-n-Mac,

Yes, if the tree had to come down we'd rather have it mangle the deck than the house, so it could have been much worse.

As for the canoe, it's an Old Town "Camper" made of an ABS laminate material called "Oltonar/Royalex". Old Town claims the canoe can literally be folded in half and it will pop back to its original shape. I haven't performed that particular test on it , but the fallen tree was removed from the deck and canoe today and most of the canoe's big dent has popped back. There are still some creases in the hull, but they don't look serious. It's supposed to be around 60 degs (or higher) here tomorrow with bright sun, so I'll put the canoe in the sun then for a few hours and see if the creases come out when the hull warms up.
