Default ..... back in 1931

Back in 1931 the N.H. state legislature passed a bill that officially named the big lake as Lake Winnipesaukee. One name in common use had been Lake Winnipissaukee and to promote tourism the legislature wished to get away from this pejorative name and move to a more friendly name.

NH - 1931: goodbye to Lake Winnipissaukee, and hello to Lake Winnipesaukee.
