The maintenance issues would keep me from buying something that old with high mileage. I sometimes take long trips and I wouldn't want to worry about a breakdown or wonder if the car would start every time I got into it.

What is the goal? Is it because it gives you something to do, driving from repair facility to repair facility having the vehicle fixed? Have you ever thought about he enjoyment of driving a new vehicle with modern equipment like adaptive cruise control, Apple Car Play, and yes, even power windows?
