Fair question (my Garmin watch would also tell me), but there are a few reasons.

Depending on the source of the weather, there can be a delay in updating, which means it can often be more than just a few degrees.

Also, my phone/watch can't tell garage temps, which I like to have for a variety of reasons, not least of which is to know when it might need to aired out (summer) or when I choose to do work or what to wear when working, etc. So, if I'm going to have one for the garage anyway...

Finally, the ones I had were right in my normal path, so I'd naturally see them more constantly, and all had ice warning lights, which motivated me to leave earlier in foul weather. Now that I think about it, a cool feature Garmin could incorporate would be an ice advisory alarm for commuters!
